Licensing

Last updated: 2026-08-06

This document records the licensing posture of the HostAgentics platform: what code is ours, what software we run on behalf of customers, and how third-party licenses are respected. It is an internal reference and the basis for the licensing notes shown in customer-facing documentation.

1. HostAgentics platform code

The HostAgentics monorepo (control plane: API, workers, web, docs, and all `packages/*`) is **proprietary** and lives in a **private repository**. The root `package.json` declares `"license": "UNLICENSED"`, which is the correct declaration for proprietary code that is not published under any open-source license. There are no plans to open-source the platform; do not copy, redistribute, or publish the codebase or its assets.

2. Runtime images (third-party software we host)

HostAgentics runs customer workloads from **pinned official images** of three third-party projects. We run them **as-is**; we do not modify, fork, or redistribute them. The upstream licenses govern each project's software:

| Runtime | Project | License posture |

| --- | --- | --- |

| n8n | n8n.io — workflow automation | n8n is distributed under the **fair-code** "Sustainable Use License" (see n8n's legal pages: <https://n8n.io/legal/> and the fair-code definition at <https://faircode.io>). Fair-code permits use, modification, and distribution with restrictions on commercial use beyond stated terms. Hosted commercial use therefore requires an appropriate n8n commercial license arrangement; the platform enforces this gate (`N8N_COMMERCIAL_LICENSE_CONFIRMED` must be true before n8n runtimes are provisioned). |

| OpenClaw | openclaw.ai — personal AI assistant framework | Per the license in the project's repository (<https://github.com/openclaw/openclaw>). Check the repository's LICENSE file for the exact terms; we run the official image as-is. |

| Hermes Agent | Nous Research — hermes-agent.nousresearch.com | Per Nous Research's terms for the project (see the project site and repository: <https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent>). Run as-is via the official image. |

Rules that keep us compliant:

  • **Pinned images only.** Every runtime image reference is pinned (digest-level where available) via the version catalog in `packages/updates`; floating tags like `latest` are forbidden in production. This is a license-compliance control as much as a supply-chain control: we always know exactly which artifact we are running.
  • **No modification.** We do not patch, embed, or redistribute the upstream images; any customization is configuration through environment variables and volumes, not code changes to the images.
  • **No redistribution.** Customer runtimes are executed for the customer's own use on the platform; we do not sell or redistribute the images as a standalone product.
  • **Upstream changes tracked.** When upstream changes its license or terms, the change is reviewed before the version catalog is updated; if terms become incompatible with hosting, we stop offering that runtime and notify affected customers.
  • 3. Fonts and frontend assets

  • Web fonts are served via **fontsource** packages. Variable fonts from fontsource are licensed under the **SIL Open Font License 1.1** (OFL), which permits embedding and serving without modification, provided the license terms are respected (no selling the fonts themselves, no claiming authorship). See the fontsource documentation (<https://fontsource.org>) and the SIL OFL (<https://openfontlicense.org>).
  • Other frontend assets (logos, images, icons) are HostAgentics-owned or licensed for use on the platform; they are not redistributed outside the platform.
  • 4. Third-party services (not redistributed)

The platform integrates third-party services under their own terms of service: payment processing (Stripe), transactional email (Resend), model routing (OpenRouter, when customers use HostAgentics AI credit), DNS (Cloudflare), and the infrastructure provider (see `docs/subprocessors.md` — the only customer-visible document that names the infrastructure provider). Integration is by API; nothing from these services is redistributed to customers except as part of the platform's operation.

    5. Trademarks

n8n, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Nous Research, Stripe, Resend, OpenRouter, and Cloudflare are trademarks of their respective owners. HostAgentics uses these names only to identify the software it hosts and the services it integrates with; no ownership is implied. The HostAgentics name and logo are owned by HostAgentics.

    6. Customer obligations

Customers are responsible for their own use of the runtimes they operate: workflows they build in n8n, skills and automations they configure in their agents, and any content they store. The platform's hosting of third-party software does not transfer or waive the upstream licenses' conditions for how the software is used. This document is not legal advice; for licensing questions about your specific use, consult the upstream license texts and, where needed, a lawyer.
